My Students

I am a visual learner and so are most of my students. The document camera gives students better aid in seeing demonstrations, use of math manipulative's, and gives a one on one feeling to each student. They can "see" what is happening in my lessons from anywhere in the classroom.

My students live in a rural community.

They are a mix from low sociol-economic to a middle class environment. Our school district is small and does not receive funds that most title one schools obtain. We have several students that are on free/reduced lunch. Because we are a small district we rely on outside resources to get materials for our classrooms. It is opportunities like these where we can make teaching more beneficial in our school.

My Project

The resource I am requesting is a document camera. It is a camera that can project whatever I am using in my lesson on a screen for the whole class to see. I can do I science experiment in front of my class, and with the document camera it is like the student is at the table with me. Instead of a few students at a time coming up to watch and observe, I can have the whole class see from all over the room. When we are learning how to use manipulatives in math I do not have to walk over to each group to demonstrate. With the document camera all students can see and learn. This saves time and creates a greater motivation in my lessons. One of my favorite reasons to use the camera is after an assessment I can go over the test question by question in front of them. They can see where they made a mistake and why it happened. They can get an immediate feedback. Learning from the mistakes is where the actually learning takes place.

The document camera can impact my lessons by providing the visual attention they need.

It definitely will make a difference in their performance by giving them a better understanding of what I am expecting them to do by seeing it. It brings my science and math lessons to life. It creates a motivation in my classroom that I could not create without a document camera. I will never have a student say, "I can't see the picture," during shared readings because it will bring my stories alive.
