The ASPIRE Academy at C. Middle School is a school within a school that identifies and serves middle school gifted learners in our district. We are a Title I school in the heart of Tempe, Arizona serving the unique needs of the gifted learner. Our students help develop the Project Based Learning electives (PBL's) and before and after school clubs based on their interests. Several students are twice exceptional and we pride ourselves on meeting the academic, social, and emotional needs of our diverse learners.
These students are creators, inventors, critical thinkers, and shapers of the future.
ASPIRE Academy students participate in project-based learning, AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination), and gifted strategies that meet academic needs as well as spatial, quantitative, verbal, aural, and kinesthetic learning styles.
My Project
Currently, our Journalism and Creative Writing PBL is producing an online yearbook and monthly school newspaper. We are in need of two professional cameras so students may enhance their photojournalism skills and produce a high quality yearbook for many years to come.
Cameras will help us provide a FREE online yearbook to all ASPIRE Academy students so every student will be able to cherish the memories of their year!
These cameras will support the yearbook project as well as the ASPIRE Times monthly newspaper. Photojournalism allows students to record events, tell a story, report the news, challenge their thinking, boost creativity, and develop evaluative skills. Many of my students participate in the annual Scholastic Art and Writing Contest with winners this year in the Gold Key and Silver Key categories for both journalism and critical essay. By adding professional cameras, students will be able to enter the photography category further supporting our visual-spatial learners.
