Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My 4th grade classroom is comprised of students many of whom are immigrants and speak a language other than English at home, are gifted, or part of our special education programs.
I love the start of each day because students line up, ready to get to class.
They smile because they know that something exciting will happen. I keep them guessing at what new things I might try or how I will read, and even what I just might wear (I came dressed as Dr. Seuss one day). These students all have different interests, from playing sports to reading a good book, but they share a common bond, the bond of curiosity and that is truly an amazing gift.
My students live in a high poverty area in Arizona. Our school is a Title I campus, and 100% of the school is eligible for the free lunch program. Our focus goals are to greatly improve our writing and our math abilities, but a major focus is to improve our reading ability of fluency to comprehension in all aspects of our school and classroom.
My Project
This project puts students in control to share their thinking with a new DJI pocket camera. My students will be able to create a video of them explaining processes in math, watching themselves as they practice public speaking, and creating a public service announcement for their class and school.
Students will work independently and collaborative planning out their video with creating a script, topic, and a cast to support their message.
Students will pick from a variety of topics, and learn at the same time. Writing the scripts, reading and research to know their topic and how it impacts students.
Students will also have opportunities to use the DJI camera individually to practice their public speaking by filming themselves to see what areas need work.
More than half of students from low‑income households
