Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

With our “Class of 2016” banner hanging in the background, my 1st graders (in a rough area of the South Bronx) performed on stage for an auditorium full of their friends, fellow students, and parents. 2016 is the year these children will graduate from high school and it has been a big theme in our classroom. We performed our "Celebration of Dance," and each child confidently took hold of the microphone sharing why dancing was personally special. Highlights included a whole class routine of "What a Feeling" from the movie Flashdance and the song "I Love You a Bushel and a Peck." The children were awesome and I was so proud of them. It was so nice to see so many parents (nearly every parent came!) so excited about their children's hard work. Luckily, we caught the whole thing on tape and we have already watched our performance in class. The children loved seeing themselves do such a good job. I believe our successful performance gave the children something really positive to celebrate. I would like to provide each child with a copy of the tape so that they may always remember our special day. Thank you for considering this proposal and I can propose you a classroom full of very excited performers when this proposal is funded.
