Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

Each year my 8th grade scholars choose a theme for their dance based on a topic we have covered in my United States History Class. Last year we had an Asian theme as tribute to the millions of Asian immigrants that helped build and sustain our country. This year they have chosen to take it to the movies as we have explored the role of and advancement of entertainment in the "Roaring 20s". Scholars have learned how the radio made a major impact on households, and about how movie theaters provided Americans with a way to escape their everyday lives. We saw how the 1927 film, The Jazz Singer, changed the game by being the first talking movie.

My scholars are excited to dress up and walk their Hollywood Walk of Fame and have a great time one last time together as a class.

We also want to provide them with a decorated promotion ceremony. Our school has an old historical gym, and it takes a lot to make it feel nice and warm for events. We want to transform as much of this space as possible to allow our families and 8th graders to enjoy their special moment.

We are excited to see these projects come to life and are extremely grateful for all of the help you provide for my scholars.
