Our state made the decision last week to close schools for the remainder of the school year and continue with virtual learning. My students are currently with their parents or family members depending on the type of work their families do. We have several students that have temporarily moved with family members because their parents/caregivers are considered essential employees in high risk areas such as hospitals.I did not anticipate being out of school for such a lengthy time so I brought home the basics such as my computer, flash drive, pens, markers and a notebook.
My students need to be able to have a better visual of the work we are doing rather than my attempt at drawing on notebook paper.
I am asking for materials that will help enhance virtual learning for a longer amount of time.
While schools are closed, our school family is always in our hearts. We have been using video conferencing to help teachers and students stay connected as well as to allow students to have the ability to socialize with their peers without the fear of getting sick. As we embarked on to new material, video conferencing became our way of sharing lessons, strategies, and problem solving for students at home.
I am asking for noise cancelling wireless earbuds and proper lighting so I may move around as needed for instruction without being confined to my laptop and to cancel out the other sounds in my house so I may focus all my attention on my students and their learning while not having to worry about the light causing a glare or an area being too dark for students to see.
I have requested a printer and ink as well. This is to help print resources that can be used as I teach to show students how to mark up texts, complete graphic organizers, and edit writing for performance tasks. I can use my current document camera to project the work for my students as we work on pieces of the assignment. Also, this is an option that could be used for students who do not have internet access or when Chromebooks need to be repaired so they do not lose out on having their materials. The items requested will help me enhance my teaching and help to closely mirror what they are used to in our classroom.
