My Students

There are roughly 400 students in attendance in our magnet school in the inner city school district of New Haven, CT. All of our students qualify for free lunch. Despite the many hardships some are facing, our students come to school ready and eager to learn. Our magnet theme allows students to explore STEM professions through stimulating and challenging programs. The technology lab is a safe place which fosters creativity, communication, and collaboration.

Our students love technology and often times, the technology lab is a place where those students who may struggle academically, excel and participate in hands-on activities.

In addition, it is also a place where gifted students can be challenged to continue to think outside of the box to develop critical thinking skills that will help them to prepare for 21st century life and careers.

My Project

This year, we started a morning announcement broadcast called the Tiger Squad News. Each day, the students help to produce, film, and edit the morning news segments for the next day. Each grade level starts the day by showing this video. It's such a fantastic way to spread positivity and promote a strong school community.

The morning news segment allows students to express themselves through creativity and imagination while promoting a strong sense of community throughout our school.

Students, parents, and teachers have commented on how much they look forward to watching this news segment everyday. Every student in the school is given a chance to participate in some way. Adding the morning news has truly made our school a more cohesive unit.

With a new green screen, we will be able to produce higher quality videos and will be able to film in two locations. This green screen will allow for even more opportunities for our morning news show to grown and prosper!
