This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
I am an inner city teacher in Missouri. The area in which I work is poverty stricken and 99% of my students receive Free or reduce meals.
The area of technology is a way to make learning fun and exciting. Students are eager to explore new things and present their finding. This type of enthusiasm has sparked a new interest in me to help my students to bring real life experiences into the classroom. I have several digital cameras and the students are trained to use them to take pictures of all of our school activities. They use Photo Story to make videos of the still shots they take with the digital cameras. Students who are unable to read and write on grade level enjoy working with the cameras. By learning to use the cameras, the students are learning a life long skill.
I would like to expand their horizon by creating a student oriented broadcast center for student to enrich their mass communication skills, writing, reading, and research abilities. In order to do this, we are in need of a video camera.
By providing this equipment to my student, it will enable them to process and present information in the world in which they live in a much broader sense and help them develop the life long skills that I have envisioned.
