My Students

“Learning to make films is very easy. Learning what to make films about is very hard.”-George Lucas. Our IB film course gives public school kids a chance usually only offered in private schools: the opportunity to become adept in both interpreting and making films.

For any student, to create, to present and to study film requires courage, passion and curiosity.

Our students have the courage to create individually and as part of a team, to explore ideas through action and harness the imagination, and to experiment; the passion to communicate and to act communally, and to research and formulate ideas eloquently; and the curiosity about self and others and the world around them, about different traditions, techniques and knowledge, about the past and the future, and about the limitless possibilities of human expression through film.

My Project

My students need lighting, extension cords, a jib crane and slider, and production slates for their IB Film projects. IB film students are required to write, plan, shoot, and produce an original 6-7 minute film (with a trailer) for submission to an international review committee. The equipment will be used by the students to bring their ideas to life as they create their final project and demonstrate their ability to use the very techniques they study in film history and film theory.

Having access to this equipment puts these public high school students in Dallas on a level playing field with other students from IB schools across the nation and around the world.
