Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Whether I give the students a prompt or the subject matter for their skit, they come together as a group, create and rehearse and perform for the class in 15 minutes. They use their creativity, teamwork and enjoy their time in theatre class.

We are a charter school made up of 450 students in the 6th, 7th and 8th grade here in Los Angeles, CA.

We are a project based school that offers all sports and performing arts. We have many field trips that help bridge our academics and how it relates to the world. Each of the grades compete to be the best class by offering service, competing in songs, cheers and helping one another. Our teachers also give of their time after school for tutoring and teaching enrichment classes like dance, art, cooking and sports. We have many alumni that return to tutor and work in the after school program as we believe "once a Bear, always a Bear".

My Project

Students will be able to connect this book to our Greek Unit which opens up Theatre Class as a foundation. The students will increase their reading ability and comprehension as they act out parts of the story and participate in discussions of the story. Students can discuss characters and what they bring to the story. Students can form opinions and make assumptions of the story line while reading and acting out the story. Students can also create set designs of their favorite scene and create or draw a costume for their favorite character. Students will learn about Greek history and the contributions of the Greeks to our society. We will learn about mankind, and how we can make it a better place for our children.

The self-esteem and confidence of the students will grow as they read, comprehend, discuss and act out MEDEA.

Their understanding of Greek history will grow as well as understanding of the theatre. The students will step outside of their comfort zone and will be able to adapt to situations because of added confidence.
