Lights, Camera, Action! Student-centered Learning While Creating Media
My students need an iPad and media equipment such as an iPad, keyboard, tripod, green screen, and microphones in order to create and explore student-centered learning.
My classes of 29 students are from a very rural area in Pennsylvania. They are a wonderful group of fifth graders and embrace learning every single day. Our school is a Title I school and has a very high percentage of kids who receive free/reduced lunch. I do my best to provide them with worthwhile educational opportunities that engage them and allow them to grow academically and grow their character too. My students are very hardworking and have a strong desire for knowledge. We reach beyond the walls of our classroom to learn through technology to Skype, create projects, and go on virtual field trips. I'm so proud to be their teacher!
My Project
Student-centered learning is a must in order to instill a love of learning in our youth. Students need to have the opportunity to explore what they are passionate about at school. My students have a variety of interests that they want to explore in-depth. Having a media center would help them present their learning to their peers and beyond our school boarders.
Student-centered, student-driven learning will inspire students to take ownership of their education and explore what interests them.
There are a variety of interests and passions in my classroom. Students are given special time to explore learning that they choose. Kids then have to organize their research, revise their plans, and finally present what they have learned to the class. There is no better way to present their findings than using an iPad and media center.
Imagine what students could accomplish and show the world if they could create their presentations in the broadcasting center. Green screen movies could be filmed, edited, and shared school-wide as well as beyond school borders. Musicians could record their music, tweak it, and then share it with their audiences. Students could make announcements for special events they are planning and broadcast it to the community. A student-led, digital yearbook could be filmed, edited, and distributed using the broadcasting center. The possibilities are endless for students that have these resources at their disposal!
I know my student will be eager to create digital projects using the iPad, keyboard, tripod, green screen, and microphones. They love exploring and using technology to share their findings. My students will not only improve their education by being enthusiastic learners and producing videos, but they will also educate others with their creations. It would be amazing for them to get this broadcasting center to bring their student-driven learning goals to life!
