I teach 9th-12th grade students with a variety of intellectual, physical, and sensory impairments. I teach self contained language arts and a transition program. This year I'm teaching 100% virtual. My students are focusing their time in school on preparing for life after high school. That looks different for every student.
I work with each student individually to help them communicate what their personal goals and visions for their futures are.
They are truly an incredible group, and I am so lucky and thankful to have a new group of learners that are excited and ready to learn each year!
My Project
LED/Fluorescent lights are BRIGHT. Everywhere we go in our school, we are surrounded by these lights. In our homes, we have more comfortable lighting that can help our minds and eyes feel at ease. For the last 12 years, my classroom was on the back of the school so I was able to leave my blinds open, turn off fluorescent lights, and give my students more natural light. This was especially beneficial in the afternoons when students are already tired and needed a soothing environment. Some children and adults in our school have light sensitivity so this can become problematic for people who come into our classroom.
Schools all over the nation are changing their environments to be more positive places and one of these changes includes the lighting.
I am requesting this project because the lamps I have selected have amazing reviews for being able to light up a space with dimmable adjustments. The light covers will adjust the type of light for students if they need a softer light in an area or during a specific time in the day. This project can help our eyes and minds feel clear and focused during out day without the harsh glare of bright lights.
