This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our seventh-grade science classroom is a place of challenge, discovery, and enthusiasm. My young scientists come from a low-income/high-poverty neighborhood, but their smiles and determination in the classroom every day is nearly unfailing. They have an amazing desire for education and they work hard to build each other up and do their best.

This year we'll learn how to think about science, instead of what to think.

I know this new critical-thinking focused curriculum will benefit my students for the rest of their lives.

My Project

Static electricity can be a challenging concept for students to grasp. Certainly everyone has seen a balloon stick to a shirt, but have you seen on demand lightning?! With a Van de Graaff generator, my students can explore the concept of static electricity with demonstrations of sparks, feeling electric current, and modeling types of charge. This equipment would bring a new level of understanding to our classroom and our new physics standards.

My students love to be hands on, and I love to provide them with opportunities to be awed by science.

A Van de Graaff generator fills both those needs and allows my young scientists to explore concepts they might not have known about. Help us to bring lightning and static electricity to our classroom with the purchase of a Van de Graaff generator!
