Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Hello! My name is Ms. Zachow and I am a bilingual special education teacher. I teach 6 wonderful students from Kindergarten to fourth grade.
I share my space with another teacher.
In our classroom we support special education students with needs ranging from Autism to Emotional Behavioral Disturbances. Our classroom is used for both instruction and sensory breaks.
Our classroom is like many classrooms in America, lit by harsh fluorescent lights. These lights can be very harsh for students with sensory processing needs. In order to make this environment better suited for all students needs, my co-teacher and I would like to cover the lights with light filters. These filters diminish harsh fluorescent lights, which can make participating in class, or calming down much easier for students with sensory processing needs.
To cover all lights, we need 3 packs of 4. If you have any questions as to how this will benefit our students, please let me know! Thank you for your support!
My Project
Many reports, much research and a number of studies have all indicated that there are several negative health effects that are directly attributed to exposure to unfiltered fluorescent light. As such, it is important to understand some of the problems that can be attributed to direct exposure to fluorescent light for extended periods of time. For example, a common complaint associated with continued exposure to unfiltered fluorescent light is eyestrain. Decorative recessed light covers are affordable, easy to install and simple to maintain. Along with eyestrain, extended exposure to fluorescent lighting can also cause serious and persistent headaches. More severe headaches known as migraine headaches can also be directly attributed to excessive exposure to unfiltered fluorescent lighting. Stress and anxiety have also been reported. Covering the lights in the classroom will greatly help my students focus more in the classroom, as well as support my students with sensory processing needs!
