Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
For the second year in a row, I will be having the privilege of re-teaching students. Many of my former third graders will be joining my class as fifth graders in the fall. Given the dramatic world events, they had a unique end to their fourth-grade year.
As a result, we are spending the second half of our school year apart and need to get creative with our resources.
I am requesting materials to make distance learning more successful.
My Project
This project fulfills two separate distance learning projects. The first, larger portion, is for a class set of the novel The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan. When I was younger, Harry Potter was the book that turned me from a reluctant to an avid reader. My hope is that The Lightning Thief does the same for this generation of students.
I am requesting 27 copies of this novel, one for each of my students, so we can conduct a book study together from our separate homes.
I am also requesting a microphone and ring light to improve our digital classroom.
The second portion of this project is for borax and pipe cleaners. We will be studying chemical reactions and grow crystals on pipe cleaners, with our family's support! Ziplock bags and paper bags will help us deploy these science materials safely while maintaining social distancing.
