My students would love a light table to explore. However, this is more than a regular light table. This light table is a large moveable disk (with a screen protector), which will allow us more flexibility in how we use it. The Light Laboratory also comes with a storage table, a weaving ring, a drawing board, a marble board, and a messy materials tray.
With this Light Laboratory, my students will have a plethora of options to explore light and different related concepts.
The students can adjust the amount of red, blue, and green light, allowing for almost any color on the light panel. The weaving ring fits around the edge of the light panel, which helps with problem-solving, fine motor skills, patterns, and exploration of shadows. The drawing board will allow students to explore their creativity and color mixing as they see the different colors of light through the different colors of crayons. That's in addition to all the usual benefits of writing and drawing! The marble board comes with marbles, and the students will explore concepts of opacity and shadows. The messy materials tray will also allow them to explore these concepts, as well as explore sensory materials without damaging the light panel.
This light laboratory will expand our learning opportunities during our center choice time. It will also be an invaluable tool to engage students in teacher-planned small group activities.
