This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a 7/8th grade Math and Science teacher in a high needs NYC middle school. My classroom has a SmartBoard and projector cart. But for the past month, these resources have sat in the corner unused because the projector lamp has blown out.
The majority of the students in my school are struggling financially.
Some of our students even reside in shelters. Most students qualify for the state's free or reduced meal program. Due to the budget cuts schools are facing, teachers are no longer able to personally give each student the resources they desire. As part of the curriculum, students are required to understand the many ideas and concepts from all areas of math. Currently, there is no way to visualize and reference these concepts.
My Project
My NY students have a passion to discover and need a creative environment to stimulate their active imaginations. These students want to learn and deserve as stimulating an environment as more fortunate students. I would love to create an uplifting classroom for my kids. I want to inspire and motivate them when they walk into the room.
In past years I was able to do just that with the use of the SmartBoard. The interactive board will be used as a tool to encourage curiosity and provide visual representations of the applications of Math and Science once again with your help.
With your help, I hope to create an inviting multimedia classroom for my Math and Science classes.
