Lighting Up Learning: Exploring Circuits in STEM

Help me give my students Squishy Circuit kits, batteries, LED lights, motors, and conductive materials so they can build hands-on electronic projects and understand how circuits power the world around them.

FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Powers's classroom raised $589

My Project

I teach STEM to Kindergarten through 5th grade students who love to explore, tinker, and ask big questions. They’re full of curiosity and creativity, and they thrive when given tools to invent and build.

This project will bring hands-on electronic circuit materials into our STEM classroom, giving students the chance to learn how electricity works by creating it themselves!

With Squishy Circuit kits, LED lights, conductive tape, coin batteries, motors, switches, and other basic components, students will learn about open and closed circuits, conductivity, and energy flow in ways that are memorable and meaningful.

These supplies will support at least three hands-on science projects across grade levels:

Squishy Circuits (K–2): Students will use conductive dough to build simple circuits and explore how electricity flows.

Potato Batteries (3–5): Students will investigate chemical energy and experiment with generating electricity from everyday items.

Light-Up Greeting Cards (3–5): Students will apply their knowledge of circuits to design greeting cards that actually light up using LEDs, batteries, and conductive tape.

From discovery in the early grades to applied engineering in the upper grades, these projects are designed to spark excitement and build foundational understanding of physical science and engineering.
