Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My amazing preschoolers love to create, build, and explore all the materials in the classroom. We love to add new (and old) and more complex materials to help our students extend their learning, think creatively, and engage in deeper problem-solving. For example, when building with big wooden blocks, we might also put gems, small colorful circles, squares, or other interesting materials to encourage imaginative play. To extend on this, I would like to introduce varied lighting into our classroom. Varied lighting in a preschool classroom means intentionally using different types, levels, and colors of light to create engaging, comfortable spaces that support young children’s development and learning. Light tables, lamps, and colored tiny lights allow children to explore science and math concepts—like transparency, reflection, symmetry, and pattern recognition.

Children can experiment with light and shadow, use translucent materials, and explore color mixing, all of which support creative thinking and problem-solving.

Sensory lighting experiences can support children who are developing self-regulation or have sensory processing differences. I am asking for some lights to incorporate during play and a small lamp to add to our cozy corner.
