Preschool is a time for exploration and to learn about the world through play. Dramatic play allows children to safely explore their emotions. In our classroom, we have kitchen materials, but lack some of the other play toys to create new types of play scenarios. As the special education teacher, it is crucial that I give my students the tools to try to understand the world. By giving them real world objects to play with and dress up with, they are able to act out pretend scenerios that they see adults around them doing daily. This helps them to understand things that may be confusing, but also have fun doing it!
