This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach sixth, seventh, and eighth graders at a magnet middle school that has a mix of magnet and zoned students. I teach technology elective classes that focus on media and design. The majority of my students are from low-income households and from very diverse backgrounds.

My students love technology and being creative.

However, many of these students do not have access to technology outside of school. I try to make opportunities for my students to create projects based on real-world careers in technology and media.

My Project

I was fortunate to be able to learn how to use and teach with Chibitronics during this summer’s Infosys Pathfinders program. Because my students are learning about infusing technology in design. Chibitronics is the perfect tool for them because they are easy to use, create amazing projects and teach kids about how electronics work. One of the projects I would like to have my students create are 3D paper designs that incorporate the chibi lights. I am requesting the Cricut Maker to help them cut the paper into their shapes and the batteries, copper tape and lights to light up their projects. I know my students will enjoy working with these items and can't wait to create a class display with all of the sparkly projects.
