My Students

“Everything I need to know... I learned in kindergarten.” -Robert Fulghum

Our kindergarten class consists of 18 caring, creative, motivated and responsible students.

We are full of enthusiasm and are excited to come to school every day to learn, grow and play together!

Our elementary school is comprised of approximately 600 students in grades 4K through 5. Our school is located in a suburb and is filled with many caring adults and professionals who are committed to the well-being and education of each student. The mission of our school is "to provide quality instruction to each student, in a respectful, safe and nurturing environment." Our core values include: "building a student-focused community, supporting excellence, being role models, creating an environment that encourages effort, and using research-based practices and a collaborative process."

My Project

My goal as a teacher is to make learning fun! I strive to engage all types of learners and offer tools and experiences in the classroom that reach all learning styles. Having a light table in the classroom will help me achieve this goal and allow students access to academic content in a novel way.

A light table is an inviting and innovative learning space where children are encouraged to engage in reading, math, writing and science activities through play.

Light tables are an excellent source of visual sensory input. Children are naturally drawn to the glow of the table and are often calmed by the visual stimulation as they explore at the center.

Students will have the opportunity to explore at the light table during reading and math centers as well as free choice time. The variety of manipulatives that accompany the light table will allow students to choose what interests them and engages them in learning. The translucent letters can be used to spell words. The alphabet tracing tiles will reinforce proper handwriting technique. The animal x-rays allow students to experience science in an exciting, hands-on way.

One of the best features of the light table is that students become immersed in play and exploration all while increasing their phonics, writing and math skills! I am certain the light table will quickly become one of the most popular learning stations in our classroom!
