This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I have six kindergarten, first, and second graders in a self-contained classroom for students with autism at a Title I school. 74% of students at our school receive free or reduced-price lunch and 85% of our student body is Black, Latinx, Native American, or Asian.

My class has a wide range of academic, social/emotional, behavioral, and communication needs.

My classroom is highly structured and individualized. The environment and instruction are modified to best fit each child's unique needs. We utilize a variety of materials to engage in sensory activities to maintain focus and attention on the tasks at hand. My students deserve to have an education that best fits their unique learning styles and helps promote independence in whatever capacity that may be.

My classroom for students with autism just received a light table--how exciting! The only catch is we don't have any accessories or learning tools to use with it. My students typically respond positively to visual stimuli, and I am excited to have this amazing light table to use during academic instruction as well as creative play. These learning tools will help my students learn basic skills such as numbers, colors, and shapes, in addition to strengthening fine motor skills and facilitating creativity.
