This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

What is more exciting than making an electrical circuit in science class? Being able to take it home and share your creation with family members! Science isn't the easiest subject to comprehend. I find that performing "hands-on" activities helps students better understand the concepts. In our upcoming school year, I will have four classes of 6th graders. Three of my classes will be ICT ENL classes which means some of my students will have special education programs, and all the students will be English as a New Language Learners. One of our first units is energy. Having 3v lithium button coin batteries and LED diode lights will allow my 6th grade students the opportunity to create their own circuits.

By ensuring that each student constructs their own electrical circuit, they are able to take home and share their projects which leads to more parent engagement and student success.

When teaching electricity, I provide my students various template designs to choose from and the copper tape necessary to complete the electrical circuits. I find that hands-on investigations promote high-level inquiry and social interactions. Help us power up our classroom so every student has the chance to let their creativity shine!
