Help me give my students this wonderful and innovative light table. This will allow an educational opportunity to engage learning through sensory play. There are many items that I can purchase separately to go with this table.
I have been working with special education students the last 15 years. I realize the importance of teaching special education children through a multi-sensory approach to learning.
"What the hand does the mind remembers" by Maria Montessori is my approach to helping these unique children learn and grow.
Next year, I will be moving to a K-3 self-contained classroom working with children that have cognitive impairments, physical impairments and some non-verbal students.
My goal is to provide a rich educational learning environment that strives to meet the needs of each individual child.
My Project
This lighted table can be used for letter identification, number identification, counting, sorting, patterning and many more games/activities. These concepts can be quite challenging for special education students. It is important as educators that we strive to look for the most innovative and hands-on materials to foster "rich learning" in the classroom. Special education teachers can set high expectations for our students; we need to be creative in how we approach and teach challenging concepts.
This is such a unique learning tool to bring into the classroom and will benefit all of my special education students.
The various learning activities will help each child make a connection from their hand to their brain as they learn letters, numbers and other critical thinking skills.
