Teaching kindergarteners is a true gift. They have a joy to their learning that is unique to the age. Each day brings them a new and exciting experience.
Our school is full of hard-working teachers, students, and families.
Over 60% of our students are from low-income families but these families never give up hope. They hope for a more stable tomorrow. They hope for people to love them. They hope for others to believe in them and give them a hand up.
Supporting my kindergarten learners every day is important. Every child needs to be taught in a way that is meaningful and allows them to be successful.
This upcoming school year, I will be working to bring play based learning back into the classroom. Having started teaching kindergarten nearly 20 years ago, I know that this used to be the norm. Recently, the has been a push on the state and national level to bring back play based learning as it is developmentally appropriate for our youngest learners.
Students often learn best through hands on work.
The light table will allow the students to play to learn through structured tasks as well as open ended exploration. My students deserve to be kids and to learn like kids. Funding for this project, will allow me to teach my students in a new and exciting way.
