I am the art teacher for a K-5 year round school in Wake County, NC. I teach over 850 students, and we are often pressed for time. One of the things I teach students to do to speed things up is to trace over their own work instead of redrawing. We never trace the work of other people, but if a student has done an original sketch onto newsprint or notebook paper I will allow them to trace it onto their final paper.
One thing we would love to have in the art room to help us with this are light boxes. A light box is a clear panel that lets light in from behind and sits flat on the table. Sometimes I send students to the window to trace (taping their work to the window), but it is extremely difficult for younger students to keep their work completely vertical while they draw.
Light boxes are also wonderful for looking at overheads and slides. We have a lot of old transparencies and old slides and I would like to make those accessible for small groups of students to look at without having to set up a projector. I hope you will consider helping us purchase two portable 12 inch x 18 inch light boxes for use in the art room. They will be used every day in my classroom for tracing and viewing slides and transparencies. Thank you for taking the time to read this proposal!
