Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are now a combination of English speakers and English language learners that want to become bilingual. They are just beginning to learn to read, write, and count in both languages. My students will be exposed to the material in English and Spanish. Our school is a Title I. I have to lend them books so their parents can read to them at home.
My students are energetic and curious learners.
They are learning to develop their own opinions. They enjoy finding patterns and playing card games that develop their mental math and subitizing skills.
My Project
The mini flashlight sets will help while I teach the unit on light and sound. One specific lesson requires flashlights so that students can decide if the materials are translucent, transparent, or opaque. Later, students can also use the flashlights when we learn about shadows and the position of the sun. My students also need to practice their addition facts. The addition dominoes will provide an engaging way for my students to practice their addition facts. Students will be able to see multiple representations of a number and decide which number sentence matches that picture.
