My classroom is a hub for diversity, from student's who have a military connection and have lived in a variety of places, to those with a more poverty type background, who may have never left the county. This is a multi-age classroom which includes a group of Kindergartners and First graders.
And regardless of their background, each student comes in ready to learn!
They are amazing thinkers and risk-takers, coaches to each other, and learners. Giving them opportunities to be all of the above, is my job. They are amazing!
My Project
I am always looking for ways to add excitement to our literacy centers. My students love to read books but currently I do not have a listening center in my multi-age classroom. The materials from this project would provide a listening center for my students to enjoy and interact with a variety of books.
Engagement with technology is beneficial to the students in this generation.
The Kindle Fires will provide technology integration with read alouds by providing a variety of books to listen to via QR codes. I have many books on tapes but cassettes are obsolete now and the mp3 converter will allow me to transfer over these amazing books for students to listen to.
Providing cushions to sit on will make this area more appealing and enjoyable while listening to stories. At times, students may work with a partner and using a splitter for headphones will provide an opportunity for students to listen to books together.
