Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
How are we going to increase literacy skills amongst our youngest learners? With GOOD teaching and GREAT books. I work with Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade students in one-to-one sessions and also small reading groups. The majority of my students are English Language Learners and have little access to books. The students are excited when a new book appears or a book that sparks their interest.
It takes a village to reach the needs of each individual child.
Reading Recovery is a program that strives to meet the needs of the lowest performing students in literacy.
My Project
What better way to interest students in reading then with great text! These books contain some of my current student's favorite characters such as Baby Bear, Jolly Roger, and Sammy. Their level of excitement and interest will soar with these new engaging books. There are many different levels of books so that they can reach more students.
I will also increase the students critical thinking and writing with the books for my guided reading groups.
Reading and writing must work together and now my students will take what they learn in the new books to apply to their writing skills.
