This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am the Athletics Director (as well as volleyball coach) at our school. I have been talking to the different coaches at our school and we were all in agreement that we need weights in order to train and condition our players. We have a fitness lab, however, our equipment is very minimal. With donations and help, we are hoping to be able to officially have a fitness lab where many players can train various muscles and have workouts that target the specific muscles needed for the sports we offer at our school (for example, legs for volleyball and soccer). On top of that, I have many students that are interested in working out after school since they found out we have a fitness lab recently. That gave me the idea to officially implement a weight training club at our school!

With a weight training club, I want to help encourage students to learn good discipline and encourage a healthy lifestyle!

After getting a donation of a dumbbell set, I have talked to these students interested in working out, and they are eager to get started as soon as we have the proper equipment. At the same time, I want to make sure that they are learning proper form in order to avoid getting hurt or causing issues with their growth and development. Many of these students are also students that are wandering around afterschool since they are not part of any club or activity, but cannot go home until their parents pick them up later in the evening. With this weight training club, they can have a purposeful activity to participate in, and avoid getting in trouble around the school or surrounding area while they wait for their parents.
