My Students

My typical day is integrating hands on learning with book and paper and pencil learning.

My students have moderate cognitive impairments and spend part of their school day working on life skills such as cooking, measuring, cleaning, and hygiene.

Our school is a 10-12 building in a rural community. My students are a pleasant group that want to do well. They really enjoy hands on activities.

My Project

On a weekly basis I will have a hands on day in my classroom. My students will use the stove to shop for ingredients, follow directions, use food safety procedures, and produce healthy meals for themselves. They will be able to increase their independence.

My classroom will be able to do cooking and baking which was not available to us before.

They will be able to learn skills which they can then transfer to their own adult lives increasing their independence.
