My Students
I work in a rural central Illinois school with a fifty percent low poverty rate. We currently have a food pantry but, our students are in need of basic life necessities such as clothing, hygiene items, and etc.
Many of our students will not ask for assistance out of pride.
We are working hard to make this more like a store experience where they can go with a teacher or staff member to get the necessities they need.
Research based evidence shows that students can excel when they have opportunity for life's basic necessities along with someone who makes the effort to care about a student.
My Project
In this project we have added clothing racks in which to hang clothing that has been donated to the students. In addition we have included basic hygiene items such as soap, toothbrushes, and deodorant.
By providing these basic needs it will help students have a higher self-esteem and feel comfortable in the presence of their peers.
In our school we pride ourselves on going the extra mile to help those students in need in order to make their educational experience a pleasant and productive one. Often times students will return stating how these simple random acts of kindness have impacted their life as a student.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
