Lifelong Learning Practices

Help me give my students a more structured classroom to create independence during center time and clean up time. These new cabinets will allow children to know where things belong and keep our classroom organized.

My Students

I teach in an early childhood, special education classroom. My students range between the ages of 3 and 5. Every day, my preschoolers come to school wearing smiles, ready to learn and play. They all come from different backgrounds and have a wide range of abilities and skills.

We love to learn through play, which stimulates a child's imagination and expands their understanding of the world.

We respect and celebrate all of the different cultures that our students come from. We create teachable moments that foster social, physical, creative, cognitive and language development of each child in their lifelong commitment to learning and independence.

My Project

For children in preschool, hands-on materials are essential for their learning. First, using hands-on materials allows young students to explore and learn new concepts by using different modalities. And second, this type of learning helps their brains to engage and create and expand the neural pathways. Because of this we have a lot of hands on materials and manipulatives in the classroom. These materials can start to feel cluttered, unorganized, and take up a lot of space.

Taking care of the environment is an important part of how children develop a positive sense of self and responsibility towards their surroundings, as well as real-life skills.

Part of life long learning includes being able to independently make choices, learning to be responsible, and helping develop good habits. We want to simplify this for our students by adding new storage cabinets to our classroom. Having things neat and organized with shelves labeled, will help our students be more independent and give them the opportunities they need to learn valuable skills.
