"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." -Nelson Mandela.
I have been a teacher for 10 years.
Education has certainly changed in the last 10 years. In many ways I feel like a brand new teacher--some of these ways are positive, in that I always feel excited to meet my new students every year. I'm always on the lookout for fun and exciting new ways of teaching and reaching my third grade babies. Other ways are not so positive, such as feeling overwhelmed by the burdens of changing standards, frustrated by the lack of training resources, and exhaustion from the constant need to research and write my own curriculum. On these days, I always remember why I am here. I am passionate and eager to share my thirst for knowledge with my 17 babies!
My Project
I am requesting a printer and ink to further enhance my ability to create my own curriculum that correlates with the Florida State Standards; that changed this year. These resources will allow me to also print Professional Development (PD) materials from webinars, online continuing education courses, and school/district Professional Learning Communities (PLC). Through attending weekly grade-level PLC meetings and being a part of our school's Leadership PLC, I am able to learn the latest practices and techniques to use in the classroom. The data, knowledge, and skills I gain from such activities will improve my students' success in all academic areas. I thrive on learning something new everyday, knowing that new implementation methods and skills that I learn greatly impact the success of my students, makes every day that much brighter.
Professional Development is vital for teachers to hone in on their craft.
The ultimate goal is to give students the tools, knowledge, and skills they will need to succeed in the 21st century. This project will definitely help me become a better teacher for the people who matter the most -- my students, my 17 babies. Thank you for your help!
