By reading more books on equity, I hope to understand how to better serve my students. As a teacher, by default, we serve as leaders. As leaders, we need to set good examples of how to treat others who are not like us. We need to grow in our empathy towards the experiences and expectations that our students come to our schools with.
In order for a school to be successful, all its students need to be given opportunities to discover what "success" is for themselves, not just in academics but in life.
In the books, "Learning by Doing: A Handbook for Professional Learning Communities at Work," "The New Art and Science of Teaching: More than Fifty New Instructional Strategies for Academic Success," and "Why Are All the Black Kids Sitting Together in the Cafeteria?", I hope to learn how to be a better teacher leader.
