Lifelong Achievement With Basic Care and Comfort

Help me give my students a chair in which they can lay down while waiting for the pain to go away, for a parent pick up or for a physical or mental break.

My Project

Have you ever visited a school nurse's office in my district? Probably not. I believe a student should be in school, and not sent home if the basics are available at school.

Basic tools or equipment, care room space, needed to provide care and comfort are unavailable in my schools.

My student in sickle cell crisis has to sit in a chair while in crisis, my young ladies during their menstrual have to be sent home while I could provide a hot pad to help alleviate the pain.

As a school nurse for the past five years, I have only been able to assess or provide care to my students from a shared space with other clinicians, forget the nursing office, forget the sick bed; all I have are common chairs you may find in an office or in a classroom. From Florence Nightingale to Katharine Kocalba, nurses should put the "patient in the best possible condition in order for nature to act, when a patient is comfortable, he or she will feel emotionally and mentally better, which will aid in recovery."

It is essential for me to try to create an environment where my students sick or with chronic condition can lay down, or could use a hot pad during their menstrual cycle. The recliner, the blankets, and hot pads will be extremely useful.
