My Students
My students bring me so much joy!! My students are eager to engage, to learn and are full of wonder about life! In OT, we work on the motor, perceptual and cognitive skills needed to help them access what they're learning in class.
I am an OT at a large, urban elementary school with a wonderfully diverse student population.
My students in OT are in kindergarten through fifth grade. Several of my students are in special needs classrooms, but not all. In OT, I strive to provide a safe, calming environment and one that fosters imagination and creativity. The kids love getting involved in hands-on projects that are fun and provide a great sense of mastery! I believe these are the best ways to build foundational developmental skills.
My Project
I'm all about the kids learning through doing, and doing real-life tasks!
I can set up a "store" with the shelving unit and cash register, so that kids can learn more complex living skills, and begin to understand the use of money.
The Allowance Game will promote real life understanding as well.
The kids will use the dishes, silverware and tablecloth during meal prep activities as they serve their peers at the table.
The room partition helps kids who need an undisturbed area to focus on a task without the visual distractions in the OT room (like toys!)
All the other games in this project have been specifically chosen to work on a particular skill related to real life. I'm excited to see the kid's reactions to these engaging, hands-on activities!
