My Project
I teach a classroom full of amazing students who are highly impacted by their Autism and other co occurring disabilities. I am striving to teach them life skills that they will be able to grow and develop to use for future independence and employment opportunities. By starting to work on these skills in elementary school it gives my students the opportunity to discover what they have interests in and to grow in their abilities.
My students have shown great pride in their jobs that we have started doing around the school and are always excited to work.
Jobs give them a chance to get out of the classroom, practice real world skills, and provide a great social aspect that encourages communication and interaction with others.
We hope to start growing plants to plant in our school garden along with hopefully partnering with a local nursery or farmers market to sell them some of our seedlings as a school based business. This would also be a great opportunity to get out into the community for my students! We would also like to practice stocking and create a school store for our classrooms with the peg board and hooks. The other products are going to be used to improve current jobs that my students are doing such as folding laundry, delivering mail and filling bird feeders.
