My Project
Our K-5 adaptive curriculum classroom is composed of various cognitive disabilities, whose primary need is to develop skills for independent living. Although the students perform significantly below their peers, each student brings with them strengths, as well as a unique personality.
The primary goal of our classroom is to provide an environment that helps each student fully develop their potential by recognizing their individuality and provide an environment that challenges each student to become a life-long learner.
Acquiring the kitchen play set (i.e., appliances and food) will make a significant impact on fostering a fun and exciting learning environment that will help develop critical thinking and problem solving skills, while simultaneously building communication and social skills of all the students. In addition, the students will learn about responsibility, while building their confidence and independence by imitating play in the kitchen.
Overall, the kitchen play set will provide a fun, creative, and engaging means to include academics such as math, health, and reading, as well as develop fine and gross motor skills. With this project we truly hope to develop and establish skills in the students that can be used at home, school, and in the community.
