My Project
This project is for our High School. This is a neighborhood school in Philadelphia. This project will benefit the entire special education department and beyond. The school has a mock apartment that students use to learn domestic maintenance and vocational skills.
These complex needs students need the opportunity to learn life skills so they can be independent after high school.
In the apartment, there is space to learn to read and follow a recipe. Students cook a variety of recipes using the stove, oven and microwave. They can also learn about nutrition and self care. There is a washer and a dryer so they can practice sorting and washing laundry. There is also a cool down space for when their emotions run high. In this Title 1 school, there are 10 complex needs classrooms, as well as many other special education students that use this area.
