Help me give my students an ironing board, household tools with nails and screws, key/locks, highlighters and protein bars that will teach my students valuable life skills.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I am blessed to teach an amazing group of moderate/severe special education high school students. Our school is a Title I school serving a diverse population. The students I work with are determined and strive to persevere through social, emotional, and academic challenges. My Community-Based Instruction (CBI) class has worked with peers on the yearbook staff, attended school activities, and volunteered in the community. They excel with movement and hands-on experiences. I am blessed to be their teacher, and I strive to encourage students beyond their greatest expectations.
This is an opportunity to teach my students essential life skills.
This project will allow students to learn how to iron their clothes, open a lock and how to navigate a combination lock. Students will learn essentials such as how to hammer a nail into wood slices and use a screw driver. As we take notes, students will highlight the instructions. The protein bars will be earned based on their demonstration of the skill and as a positive behavioral award. This is an out-of-the box adventure, and I can't wait to begin.
