Stuck on Sculpture: Creating Fancy Art With Nothing Fancy! My Art students 12th graders, a bit like small fish in a huge sea. We are a mini-school housed on the 3rd floor in an extremely large high school. The neighborhood is not the safest around, and this is a high-needs inner-city community, but our students feel safe in our little corner of the world. My students love Art class, and I do the best that I can with the supplies I have on hand.

The students are interested in doing sculpture. I've not been able to introduce sculpture because our school budget has been cut drastically, and I don't have enough modeling clay left over from last year. Wanting to capitalize on my students' enthusiasm, I began researching lesson plans for sculpture online that use other kinds of materials. I found a fantastic project where students made life-sized sculptures of the human body using nothing other than clear packing tape!!

My students need 2 cartons of clear packing tape. Nothing fancy! This project will help students to solve problems as they use common materials in a completely different manner. They will realize that when one is faced with obstacles (such as not having the materials they have in mind to create a project) they can improvise.

Your help will make it possible for my students to finally create a sculpture. Not only that, but they will come to the realization that you don't need anything really fancy or expensive to create a work of art! It looks like such an exciting project to make, and I just know that my students will enjoy this experience (maybe even more than if we made small clay and wire sculptures). In this day and age, when the economy is just starting to recover from a recession, this would be an amazing lesson for them to learn.
