One memorable moment was during a recent lesson on homeostasis, when students used the materials to model how different body systems communicate and respond to environmental changes. Instead of just reading about the concepts, students were able to interact with the materials, discuss their thinking with peers, and physically demonstrate feedback mechanisms. It turned abstract ideas into something concrete and meaningful for them.\r\n\r\nHow did your students react when they first saw the materials?\r\nMy students were genuinely excited when the materials arrived. Many of them immediately asked, \"Are we using these today?\" and wanted to explore how they worked. For students who often struggle with engagement or confidence in science, the materials helped lower anxiety and increase curiosity. I saw students who are usually quiet volunteering answers, asking thoughtful questions, and collaborating more actively with their classmates.\r\n\r\nWhat are the next steps for your students?\r\nNext, students will use these resources to complete a multi-day investigation connected to a Regents-style biology task. They will collect data, analyze patterns, and construct Claim–Evidence–Reasoning (CER) responses to explain real-world biological phenomena. Ultimately, these materials will help students strengthen their scientific reasoning skills and prepare for high-stakes assessments, while also building confidence and excitement about learning science. Your support is helping my students see themselves as scientists, and that impact will last far beyond this unit.","fullyFundedDate":1758898856854,"projectUrl":"project/building-bright-minds-one-block-at-a-ti/9579404/","projectTitle":"Building Bright Minds, One Block at a Time","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Irizarry","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9096252_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1689913604390","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9096252"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_20798","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":337,"numTeachers":17,"percentFrplEligible":84,"percentAsian":5,"percentBlack":52,"percentWhite":1,"percentIndigenous":2,"percentLatinx":34,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"19.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":76.9,"schoolId":20798,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Bronx Health Sciences High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Bronx Health Sciences High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/new-york-city-dept-of-ed/bronx-health-sciences-high-school/20798"}
