This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Papers, pencils, and folders--oh my! My first graders need help keeping their supplies in order.
My students are part of the inaugural first grade class at our brand new public elementary school in New York City.
They are a truly diverse bunch of children and represent the vibrant community our school is housed in. Our school building is dated, and there is limited shelf space for all our learning materials. As a new school we are starting from scratch, and we want to ensure that the classroom is fully stocked with everything my students need to thrive.
My Project
First grade is a time of enormous growth and discovery across all learning areas. My students will be busy writing, drawing, adding, and creating, all of which require different folders, journals, notebooks, pencils, markers, and erasers. Having a manageable, easily accessible system for organizing their materials right at their seats will help all my students stay focused on what really matters- learning to read, write, and think! They will also clear up valuable shelf space for things like books. The 25 chair pockets will be particularly useful for students with spatial difficulties for whom staying organized is a challenge. Chair pockets will help to minimize time spent searching around the room for materials and will facilitate students' engagement with learning activities.
The transition to first grade can be difficult for students, but having a place of their own to hold their things will help my students be ready for all the learning that is to come this year.
Please help my students stay clutter free as they start their first grade year in their brand new school!
