My Students

I teach amazing 7th grade students on the outskirts of Nashville. My students come from a lower middle class community and are afforded some opportunities but not others. I have a full year of activities planned including virtual field trips and actual field trips, I am looking forward to a day where students can sample foods from the historic civilizations we are learning about. Yes, you read that right. My students will try foods from five continents between 400 and 1500 CE. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for most of my students. My students bring a unique perspective into the classroom that develops students who will definitely be leaders of the future.

My Project

We will be learning about multiple civilizations around the world starting with the Roman Empire and ending with the exploration of the Americas. These materials will give some perspective of geographical relations between the civilizations we are learning about. I would like a more traditional globe as well as inflatable ones that the students can use but can be stored without taking valuable storage space. These items work directly with the geographical and cultural topics the students will learn and will serve many students in the years to come. The packet on pre-explorer civilizations of the Americas will wrap up the year by understand the indigenous peoples. These topics will not be leaving the curriculum in the near future and that helps these items become all the more valuable.
