My Students

Enthusiastic, excited, social and eager would all be words I can use to describe my class. Despite their academic limitations, they are eager to please and always willing to help a staff member or student in need. They come from a diverse set of ethnic and religious backgrounds ranging all over Queens, NY. In addition, many of my students are coming from low socio-economic backgrounds where they don't have the access to community activities, resources and good literature. They are also emerging readers and we want to expose them to books, characters and have them develop a life-long love of reading. My students have a variety of disabilities, such as Down Syndrome, Autism and Intellectual Disability. They range in age from 10 to 13, from verbal to nonverbal. Despite their apparent disabilities, they have many abilities that make them unique and special.

My Project

My students are all emerging readers and have limited access to chapter books or books of substance. They need their own individual book to follow along during group reading time to help with reading skills and improve overall comprehension. I am asking for The Flat Stanley Collection and Frindle.

Making reading fun and promoting a life long love of reading is our goal.

It will help improve my students confidence to have their own individual book to follow along and it will also allow me to be able to assign homework based on what we have read in class. My students are eager to learn but just need the necessary materials for success!
