Life Lessons Through Literature

My students need expanded read aloud library filled with book titles that contain life lessons that can be discussed as a group.

My Students

Our school will be entering its 10th year come this September. In our Pre-K class, that means over 180 students will have come and gone from this Pre-K classroom. Along with that, many other students have called our room home for enrichment classes, after-school programs, and summer camp.

Families send their precious children to our class every day, for us to help them take those first steps towards accomplishing great feats.

Children make this room their home for however long they stay and miss it dearly when they move on. It's something we take pride in, and we hope to continue doing what we love to do and that nurtures their love for learning.

I've been teaching at my first and current school for six years. No matter who enters through that door, they are part of our school family. I hope to provide them with the absolute best education we can offer.

My Project

We go through our lives learning different lessons that will help us grow and develop into the people we are now. Some experiences and lessons are much harder to come by through experience. One of the reasons why we read is to learn a variety of life lessons we wouldn't be able to experience. Not many people can travel to different parts of the world and experience the magical things the world has to offer.

Literature is the passport to experiencing the amazing things without having to hop on a plane or a time machine.

With an expanded library filled with books that contain valuable life lessons, my kids will be able to learn things they wouldn't be able to at home. The expanded library will allow for discussions about the author's purpose for writing the book and what they've learned after reading it.

I want my students to learn life lessons through literature and develop a passion for reading as it is one of the most important factors for academic success.

First impressions are very important. Please help me give a wonderful first impression of books by funding this project. My hope is that these books will ignite class discussions about the lessons learned and have these kids bring home discussions for their families to talk about.
