This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I bet that you thought the days of using Popsicle sticks to spread that icky white paste all over kid-created masterpieces were over!
Unfortunately, icky white paste (I think that just may be the official name for it, too!) is what I'm going to have to resort to using if we don't get some more glue sticks soon! At the beginning of this year, I purchased oodles of back-to-school supplies for my 26 super-cool 2nd graders. Walmart, Target and other great retailers offered supplies at unbeatable prices! I was able to purchase dozens of glue sticks at dirt cheap prices! However, I grossly under-estimated just how many glue sticks we would go through, and the back-to-school sales are history!
Our entire supply of glue sticks has been used to create adding and subtracting turkeys, place value pumpkins, animal habitat posters, and many other awesome projects. As you may have guessed, I'm one of those "crafty" teachers. I love to have my kids engrossed in projects - projects that usually require kids to work together in small groups to create something that proves that learning is taking place. Whether it is creating a Pilgrim hat out of construction paper, or decorating a student-written descriptive paragraph, glue sticks are a staple in the 2nd grade classroom!
Putting something as simple as glue sticks in the hands of my kiddos is going to save us from the monotony of completing boring worksheets all day. Instead, when this project is funded, we'll get to cut, paste and express our knowledge in super-creative ways that help to make learning stick!
By donating to my project, you will be helping all 26 of my little ones to succeed in math, language arts, science, reading and social studies on a daily basis in fun and creative ways! Thank you for reading and considering my project!
