Life Lessons Learned at the Minion Miller Mart School Store
My students need supplies for their school store like highlighters, and wipe off markers. These items will be placed in the school store for the entire population to purchase. My students will be managing the store.
The students where I am privileged to work are the BEST! I am an Intervention Specialist; working with 11 students who have learning disabilities. I work with these students in their regular education classroom as well as in the resource room. My students may struggle with academic and social concepts, but they do not let any challenge stop them. They work hard and preserve.
My students are full of love, compassion, have a willingness to help others; and most importantly, they want to be successful and learn as much as they can.
I want to help my students not only learn the academic content standards they need to learn, but also provide them with a real hands-on learning opportunity.
My Project
I was looking for a project that would integrate multiple curriculum areas with a real-world context; and I found it! A school store. A school store is that educational resource for kids. The School-based stores offer more than just a place to shop for snacks or school supplies; it will boost students' academic and life skills through real entrepreneurial experience. My students, while managing the school store, will be picking up valuable life skills like: making change, counting and doing inventory, teamwork, responsibility, leadership and customer service to name a few.
You donation will help my students grow their business and learn important real-world skills.
The items purchased of: pens, highlighters and wipe off markers will be sold in the school store for the entire school population to shop at. This is not a fundraiser; the monies raised will be put back into the school store to keep this project going for many years. The school store will equip my students with valuable life skills that will help them not only in the classroom setting, but across all walks of their life.
